It is the first day of spring! We love love love this spring air of newness and good energy <3

To honor the beginning of the season, we put together a selection of great ideas to decorate with flowers to bring some vividness into your home and dust out the old winter feel (or not, for those who live in Miami and skipped winter like us).

Arranging flowers is a tricky thing, but the skill really comes with lots of practice. The wonderful thing about flowers is their organic nature because it allows you to play with colors, textures, and sizes more freely than, lets say, furniture, which inherently requires a little more precision. The possibilities are endless to say the least, but we’ve manage to gather some nice ideas to decorate with flowers for all different styles of home, from the modest to the exuberant.

Choose Colors and Personalities

Exotic Organic

Exotic flowers typically have an edgier look. You can soften it up by choosing lighter hues for a more organic look. Clear vases always can help enhance this look too.

Neutral Organic

Neutral colored flowers with thin semi-translucent petals are great for achieving this look. White carnations are quite versatile and really easy to find.

Bold and Radiant

This is great for rooms with one or two pops of color, because they have the tendency to look static. The multicolored arrangement can pick up on the understated hues and give the space a much more dynamic style.

Soft but Saturated

Lighter shades of red and orange are the easiest to work with but can sometimes look a little ‘dull’ or monotonous. You can choose tight buds of flowers with overlapping petals to create more points of saturation.

Soft and Light

This has a much more feminine approach. Big, irregular shaped petals are the way to go.

Country Chic

A country look is very friendly to the eye and very simple to achieve. The trick is to buy the ones that haven’t completely bloomed! Daisies and Chrysanthemums are also very easy to work with for this style.

Casual Charming

Just add a few closed flower buds to the mix! It’ll bring pops of green to your color palette and make it very casual. We highly advise the use of porcelain vases to add some charm to the arrangement.

Mono-chromatic

If you choose to stick to one color of flowers, try using vases and bottles of the same hue.. You’ll see how it completes the arrangement!

Some homes require more traditional bouquets. Roses and Calla Lilies are vey beautiful and elegant, and with the right color combination they can be very exciting.

Let your Stems show

Dont be afraid to leave some stems longer than the others. Long stems and smaller flowers have a very delicate but fun look.

Higher Density is always a Plus

Contrast in densities create beautiful views. Lush flowers like Hyacinths look great against big green leaves. You can also try the opposite, dense greens against Roses or Peonies.

Little flowers in Little Vases

To add a bit of sweetness to any corner, gather small flowers in a very small vase or bottle. The arrangement is very understated but don’t underestimate the power of cuteness.

TIP: The life span of most flowers almost doubles when you cut the stem 1/2″ short and leave them resting on water. It’s a great fresh addition to powder rooms.

Gardening Objects

Watering cans and gardening buckets are just lovely, and they bring a sense of genuineness to any space.

Old Glass Bottles

Bottles should always be recycled. But if you choose to re-use first, flower arrangements are a great use of your old wine bottles. You can spray paint them or leave them clear, either way they have a very nice artesanal-chic look.

Re-use your Tin Cans

Your old tea and coffee tin cans are very appropriate to hold your plants and flowers. In this case, it is best to stick to plainer flowers to not over-saturate the arrangement.

Decorate with Fruit

For a very fresh look, line the inside of your vase with slices limes, or green apples. If your find it difficult to make them stay in place, you can also insert a thinner vase inside a large vase to keep flowers and fruit separated.
